Have a playful and expressive weekend learning abstract painting concepts and techniques.  You will use acrylic paints, gels, and additives on a large canvas provided. 

Feel free to bring along unfinished work to complete or get feedback on also. James will deliver demonstrations and discussions on the colour wheel, light and shade, form, texture and constructing composition within your painting adventure.

  • EVERYTHING is provided, although feel free to bring along favourite brushes, half-finished works or extra canvases.

You might get dirty! Don't wear your Saturday night best outfit! Comfort is key.

The Corban Estate Arts Centre is located in Henderson, West Auckland.

We’re home to artist studios, our very own cafe, art classes for adults, youth and children, and an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events.

Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

James Lawrence is an excellent tutor. Easy going and knowledgeable and works with to take you in the direction you want to go with your art.

Brilliant class! I was a bit hesitant at first as I’ve never tried abstract painting before, but James was great and I was soon having a great time. He took us through some initial exercises, guiding and suggesting ideas when we were stuck, while also giving everyone the space to create pieces that were their own. I had an absolute ball, came away with a great piece and even more inspiration for the next one.

ADULTS, YOUTH AND CHILDREN’S CLASSES/WORKSHOPS ENROLMENT POLICY

  • A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking.
  • Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
  • Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.

  • A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking. Part Payment options are available at time of booking.
  • Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
  • Cancellation by participant up until 10 days before the workshop commences results in a full refund of amount paid MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant within 10 days or on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given. You may nominate someone else to take your place before the class starts.
