The Lab is a 4-day unique creative workshop with the acclaimed Jack Gray, Artistic Director of Atamira Dance Company. Designed for interdisciplinary practitioners, the wānanga intensive focuses on activations through daily movement, discourse and making, with participants in for a physically and emotionally charged experience. The approach is varied, looking at physicality and activating the body using easy to follow patterns and joyful interaction between music, the participants and the space. Through a range of techniques including improvisation, structured choreographic methods, self-directed writing tasks, image-making, explorations, kōrero, and self-directed lab time, participants will be given the tools to deeper manifest these experiences in their bodies.
Includes a special masterclass session with Jack sharing his global inspirations as a maker with practices steeped in Mātauranga Māori.

Alongside the workshops, Summer School students are invited to take part in the following activities;
MONDAY 17 JANUARY: 9 –10am
Meet and Greet Students and Tutors: All Summer Schools participants are encouraged to attend this event to meet the tutors and fellow Summer School participants. Light refreshments provided.
WEDNESDAY 19 JANUARY: 4.30pm – 6pm
Artist Studio Visits: CEAC is home to 20+ artists in studios and this week we have planned a tour of several of these. Come along and meet the artists, tour their studios and talk to them about their work.
NB: All visitors should meet at the main reception at 4.30pm for a welcome where the tour of studios will begin.
THURSDAY 20 JANUARY: 4.30pm– 6pm
Exhibition inside the Barrel Store onsite at Corban Estate Arts Centre. Enjoy an exhibition of the Summer School tutors current working practice, with floor talks and refreshments. This will be an enjoyable, inspiring evening not to be missed! Say ‘thank you' and ‘goodbye’ to those tutors who are completing 4 day workshops and for participants to come together.
COFFEE STUDIO
The Coffee Studio will offer delicious organic coffee, tea and healthy smoothies, fresh lunches, snacks and blackboard menu throughout the week.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
Enrolments will be confirmed and a materials list provided upon deposit made. If you withdraw from a class on or before 7 January 2022 your course fee will be refunded less a $50 administration fee. If you withdraw from a class on or after 8 January 2022 you will receive a 50% refund of your course fee. No refund will be given after a course has started or if you decide to leave early. You will be advised by 5 January 2022 of course cancellation and a full refund will be made.

About Jack Gray:
Jack Gray (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa) is an internationally recognised Māori contemporary dancer, choreographer, teacher, facilitator and writer. His independent arts practice spans two decades and has seen him work with diverse audiences in community-centred spaces of Indigenous knowledge exchange including; Transformance Lab (New York), I Moving Lab (USA, Australia, NZ), Indigenous Dance Forum (New York), I LAND (Hawaii, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York).
Jack creatively devises Indigenous approaches towards enhanced relationships between place, people and potential. He has also been Assistant Professor at University of California Riverside, Artist in Residence at New York University’s Asian/Pacific/American Institute, Regent’s Scholar at UCLA/World Arts and Cultures. Jack has had a long-standing relationship with Corban Estate and is Artistic Director of Altamira Dance Company, based onsite.
