Mamalu - Dignity with Rosanna Raymond centres around the symbolism of Moana Tatatau and is a unique opportunity for participants to develop creative writing skills, reflect on aspects of their own identity and gain confidence with performance, exhibitions and personal storytelling. Rosanna will guide participants through a process where they will learn about the cultural meaning and oral histories that she carries on her own body, how this has influenced her own art practice, alongside discussions around issues of ownership, cultural heritage and the significance of Tatatau in Moana today. Over the week the group will draw, write and embody the works created in the workshop, collaborating to install and present explorations to friends and whānau at the conclusion of the week.

About Rosanna Raymond:

Sistar S’pacific aka Rosanna Raymond is an innovator of the contemporary Pasifika art scene. She is a long-standing member of the art collective, the Pacific Sisters and a founding member of the SaVAge K’lub. Over the past twenty years, Raymond’s activities have made her a notable producer of, and commentator on, contemporary Pacific Island culture in Aotearoa and internationally. She specialises in working within museums and higher education institutions.

Raymond has achieved international renown for her performances, installations, body adornment, and spoken word. A published writer and poet, her works are held by museums and private collectors throughout the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Aotearoa. Raymond is an Honorary Research Associate at the Department of Anthropology and Institute of Archaeology at University College London and a former Chesterdale Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (2017). She was the Pacific Artist in Residence at Government House (2017) and is currently a researcher for the AUT Marsden funded project Vā Moana.

Enrolments will be confirmed and a materials list provided upon deposit made. If you withdraw from a class on or before 7 January 2022 your course fee will be refunded less a $50 administration fee. If you withdraw from a class on or after 8 January 2022 you will receive a 50% refund of your course fee. No refund will be given after a course has started or if you decide to leave early. You will be advised by 5 January 2022 of course cancellation and a full refund will be made.
