Textiles - A Journey in Print Design with Katie Smith is a comprehensive and inspiring workshop for textile enthusiasts. Starting with drawing and looking at the work of other textile artists, you will then begin the process of creating your own unique designs. Katie, who is well-known in her field and has a long history with Corbans, will guide you through a number of processes which include screen-printing, block printing and stencilling techniques onto cloth, with the aim of producing a meaningful textile work and perhaps even lead into your own further studies!

About Katie Smith:
Katie Smith of Smitten Textile Print Design is smitten with colour, textures, fabric and ink. She has been working with fabric in one way or another her entire life. From clothes to interiors to conceptual art, she has always been fascinated by the power of fabric to transform places, space and people. Her textile crush started as a teenager, hoarding charity-shop fabrics in her room. In her own practice, quality over quantity and sustainability remain core to her business and artistic ethos.
Katie graduated with an M.A. in Textile Art from Goldsmiths University of London in 1995 and prior to this studied textiles at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin. Katie also has a long history with Corban Estate; she was once one of our resident studio artists and a frequent art workshop tutor for all age groups. She has since relocated the Smitten Textile Print Design studio to her home.
COFFEE STUDIO
The Coffee Studio will offer delicious organic coffee, tea and healthy smoothies, fresh lunches, snacks and blackboard menu throughout the week.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
Enrolments will be confirmed and a materials list provided upon deposit made. If you withdraw from a class on or before 7 January 2022 your course fee will be refunded less a $50 administration fee. If you withdraw from a class on or after 8 January 2022 you will receive a 50% refund of your course fee. No refund will be given after a course has started or if you decide to leave early. You will be advised by 5 January 2022 of course cancellation and a full refund will be made.

These classes are subject to changes in accordance with Covid-19 government restrictions. Please scan QR codes in workshop studio spaces. All classes will be running at Level 2 or lower.

- Alongside the workshops, Summer School students are invited to take part in the following activities; MONDAY 17 JANUARY: 9 –10am Meet and Greet Students and Tutors: All Summer Schools participants are encouraged to attend this event to meet the tutors and fellow Summer School participants. Light refreshments provided. WEDNESDAY 19 JANUARY: 4.30pm – 6pm Artist Studio Visits: CEAC is home to 20+ artists in studios and this week we have planned a tour of several of these. Come along and meet the artists, tour their studios and talk to them about their work. NB: All visitors should meet at the main reception at 4.30pm for a welcome where the tour of studios will begin.

Preparation
What to bring
- Materials for students to bring • A3 drawing pad, visual diary or sketch book for all your ideas • Pencils or drawing pens • Craft knife (Xacto Knife is best – from Gordon Harris) • A coverall to protect your clothes • Fabrics/garments/textile items you would like to print on to (need to be natural fabrics, pre-washed best) • Textured fabrics (optional) • Newspaper if possible – not essential • Spoons (2nd hand metal dessert spoons are great) • Small containers with lids to mix the inks into (no smaller than 400ml) • Latex gloves or rubber gloves (advisable) • Rags As part of the course costs you will receive 3m of calico - the following are optional extras that Katie will have available for purchase with cash or bank transfer on the day: • Linen table runners • 100% readymade linen tea towels - $8.00 each • 100% readymade linen Table runners - $10 each • 100% cotton pillowcases - $5.00 each

Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

- Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.

- A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking. Part Payment options are available at time of booking.
- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
