In this fun and super packed five-day hands-on workshop with the vivacious Sofia Athineou, you will learn all the basic techniques to build your beautiful glass casting works. Working with clay, wax and found materials, participants will learn how to build plaster moulds and eventually learn how to cast their works, finishing them off with hand polishing. Past participants loved Sofia’s previous Summer School workshop that they took more of her workshops during the year!

Sofia Athineou is of Greek descent and lives in the Waitakere Ranges. She is a mixed media artist working with a range of materials such as metal, stone, wood, found objects, harakeke and glass. Sofia is a recipient of many awards and she is extensively published in art publications.

The Corban Estate Arts Centre is located in Henderson, West Auckland.

We’re home to artist studios, our very own cafe, art classes for adults, youth and children, and an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events.

Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

This course was excellent. Sofia is a patient and highly skilled teacher who did her very best to assist students in making their ideas come to life. I was super pleased with my piece of cast class art, which I will be proudly displaying at home.

A very comprehensive course, with a very helpful and patient instructor. She gave us open rein, helped us when we needed help and was also very good fun. She is clearly very dedicated to her work and helped us understand all the principles involved.

Really enjoyed the Cast Glass course with Sofia and classmates. Great tutoring by Sofia who goes beyond what I would expect from a tutor. Personally I learnt a new technique for casting glass which I would like to explore more. Already the ideas are milling in my head. Corbans Art Centre was easily accessed with parking onsite which is a bonus as well as train services which is bonus for others. The cafe was great. I would like to see Corbans offer more in classes during week days like Uxbridge in Howick which I would use if it was closer. I belong to the Auckland Embroiderers Guild and come to the beautiful church in the Corbans grounds each month with the Outwest group.

  • A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking.
  • Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
  • Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.

  • A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking. Part Payment options are available at time of booking.
  • Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
  • Cancellation by participant up until 10 days before the workshop commences results in a full refund of amount paid MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
  • Cancellation by participant within 10 days or on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given. You may nominate someone else to take your place before the class starts.
